Customers not returning items back - reimbursement question

Hi,
If a customer purchases a product, then opts for a refund, the net sales proceeds + FBA fee are reversed from my account. If the customer doesn’t actually return the item back within 45 days, Amazon says they’ll re-charge the customer and then reimburse you.

This happens quite frequently, and I note that the reimbursement amount does not equate to the proceeds that were initially reverse… it’s usually just the amount to cover the cost price of the unit. Is this correct? Seems a little unfair Amazon keep the profit when nothing’s actually changed - the customer opted for a refund, probably changed their mind, and then kept the item.

Or am I misunderstanding?

That’s about right.
But if you think about it, if you had posted the item yourself and the customer changed their mind, you would still lose out on the original postage.

It’s also worth checking every now and again for refunds that you should have had.
I recently got back from Amazon about £3k in funds, due to refunds not being made.
