One order, three items, three returns

A customer purchased three items from us and we shipped the whole order in one 8lb box. They returned the items claiming they arrived too late (arrived a day before promised delivery date) however, they opened a return request on each individual item and so they returned the three items in three separate boxes (at the same time) and each box had a return label marked at the 8lb weight from the original order. Two of the items weight less than one pound. Is the only recourse to try and charge the label cost to the customer when issuing the refunds?

It seems wrong that we got charged for this 8 lb label three times, especially twice on the small and light items.

"A customer purchased three items from us and we shipped the whole order in one 8lb box. "

The primary question about this when you say that you shipped them in one box is this -

Did the buyer do THREE ORDERS and you took the chance of consolidating all three into one box, OR did she place ONE order with three items on it? And, YES, I saw that you said 'one order' but the Forum is filled with people not giving the exact info needed.

At this point I would bet that they placed THREE ORDERS and Amazon sent them THREE return labels since there were three orders. In that case they had to return three packages or any shady Amazon seller would claim they only returned one and possibly get away with it for a change!
