My replacement/renewed debit card is not being accepted as the charge method

Amazon are not accepting my new debit card in my records. I’ve tried five times and it still says this payment method is “not acceptable.”

For background: My bank debit card has just been through it’s usual renewal after a few years. I noticed that oddly the actual card number is the same as the previous card, it’s just the expiry date that is now obviously a new one, coming in 2023.

I have updated it in all my other accounts, including Pay Pal and of course here on Amazon when I got the notice today asking me to update.

It won’t accept it, even though the new expiry date is there. All other details are the same. Can anyone advise what to do next? There shouldn’t be any problems but Amazon is rejecting the new card.

hi, this has happened to me too. I have updated my bank info twice, provided copy of bank letter etc and although it says verified I am unable to sell or view my listings as a message states I still need to update my info! I have opened a case but not had a reply yet. ggggrrr

I had exactly this problem 3 weeks ago… except it was my existing bank card, that suddenly Amazon decided was “invalid”.

(It worked everywhere else, and my bank confirmed nothing had changed - they could find nothing wrong with the card. Only Amazon had a problem with it)

Amazon CS wasn’t helpful beyond “use another card…”

I only have the one. Bank accts and cards cost a lot in my country, so it’s not practical to keep a “spare” I have no use for.

Rather than wrangling with Amazon, I decided to replace my card.

This took a week.

Typically, Amazon then decided to graciously accept my “old” card 4 days later :frowning: I decided to change cards anyway, in case this happens again.

Your choice. You can either wait and hope, or get a replacement card…

The problem is very likely the identical card number.

When Etsy “lost” everyone’s French bank details, their setup would not allow you to add the same card number back. It was silly, but apparently coded that way for security reasons. Amazon is probably the same.

With Etsy, we had to get customer service to manually override it, and add all our bank details back.

With Amazon… No idea. Good luck.

They might, but personally I would ask your bank for another card - specifically requesting that it has a different card number because it’s causing security issues and being refused.

At least then you know it will dedinitiely work within a few days.

I completely changed my bank account and therefore had new details, there was more than £5 in the account so none of those other reasons applies to me. this is frustrating. hoping I get a reply from my case log soon

This happened to me last year. I shut my account down for a while, didn’t know what was happening.

Basically, after months with Customer Support, the told me the system was recognising my card as a prepaid card which Amazon don’t accept. I just kept on pushing and pushing and pushing. Occassionaly a human answers, and the second time this got kicked up to “relevant Department” the CS agent explained that it was most definitley not a prepaid card. Sorted a few days later.

The card did eventually expire, and the same hing happened with my new Debit Card, it was much quicker to sortout as I knew what the fault was.
