Yes, a few random times it;'s happened when I know for sure it’s not overweight. Sometimes they’ve picked up stuff that was overweight but I overlooked.

Are you using a 3rd party retailer like parcel2go? They add an additional admin charge too.

My lack of time and the volume I’m currently shipping makes it more costly to argue. I should do but I have a sweet set up with the local hermes guy that saves me more money than they surcharge so I let it fly.

I had this issue with parcels2go twice with a dpd sent parcel. Both times I appealed and sent the measurements and they apologised and closed the case.

Yes, it’s a nice little scam that p2g/Hermes are running - they run these through every so often as they know that appealing every claim is not time efficient and a lot won’t bother… I once had a claim that a soft toy weighing 200 grams weighd 5.2Kg!

its the main reason I stopped using them - they would just send an invoice claiming parcels were over weight or size, but could not provide any proof at all - and when you complain they try to tell you that the other 500 units of the same item you posted that month must have been lighter or smaller, cash generation at its finest

A week ago, I was given an outrageous surcharge of £4. I contested this because the amazon title even had the weight which shows up in their systems. The product also has the weight on the packaging.
I got defensive reply from P2G about hermes having super accurate scales and a failure rate of 0.01% blah blah but out of goodwill here’s your £4 back.

I didn’t settle for this “good will email” insinuating I was wrong with inferior euipment to hermes so I said there’s been many surcharges I haven’t had the time to contest but 9/10 they are wrong. I attached photographic evidence of the items and box on a floor scales and on super accurate postage scales. I then got a call back from a “VIP manager” basically apoligising and asking me about other claims I should be following up on.

You’re right, it’s a bit scammy and they got caught out on this. The weight’s in the title, product packaging and in the photos of the item on scales I sent them.

Always contest!

I had the same thing back in August and September, a total of 7 demands for extra payment for ‘out of tariff’ parcels. I know exactly how much my parcels weigh and they tried to claim that my 220 gram postal tubes weighed anything from between 1.2 kilos and 2.2 kilos each! I disputed and proved them wrong each time and they finally gave up. Sounds like they are ‘mass sending’ these demands out because people tend not to keep a record of their parcels and just pay up.

Not sure how Hermes check weigh but if it’s a conveyor system it can be that 2 parcels are on the scale at the same time hence giving an incorrect weight. This happens occasionally with DHL (UK Mail) and is caused by operative error in the warehouse.
