EAN or UPC for starting selling in the UK
I know EAN is the European 13 digit GTIN, and UPC is the 12 digit US GTIN used in North America.
I’m planning to start selling in the UK, so makes sense to get a EAN, but then later sell in Europe and then also in the US. I want to avoid using multiple barcodes if possible. So my question is, if I’m going to use one barcode for a product which will be sold in UK, Europe and eventually US, which do I get? EAN or UPC? Or does Amazon not care which one I get?
(even though my product will probably qualify for brand registry and be exempt, I still want to use some form of barcode, possibly later for selling off Amazon).

According to a Wikipedia article (if you trust them), EANs are accepted in North America

If the product has an EAN, why not use it, instead of creating a duplicate listing for a supposed “brand” that no-one, apart from your family and friends, will have ever heard of? Brand names take years of effort, money and promotion to become recognised. I’m afraid it is very unlikely that yours will do so: half the sellers on Amazon appear to have set up their own brands for products that are absolutely identical to the 20 or 50 or 100 other brands. Your potential customers will not search Amazon for your brand name, and if they come across it, it will mean nothing to them

I agree I would use EANs to be recognised globally! Safest and best option
