How long to get German VAT number?
I registered for VAT in Germany mid-Sept but not had my VAT number through yet. Has anyone registered for VAT in Germany over the past few months and had their’s through yet?

around 3 weeks
The VAT registration process usually takes around 3 weeks in Germany before the VAT identification number is granted. But it also depends on whether you use a good VAT services company or not

We applied at the beginning of September and just received it this week.

Depends if you apply through Amazon SPN or on your own/using company outside SPN.
My friend is celebrating 1 year anniversary of his application through SPN (he has started process in Nov last year, and his SPN tax advisor just asked for a final signature from him). Probably Nov’19 was a spike of VAT registration requests though, whole Amazon seller network was applying back then.
For me it was 5 months (March- August). I speak German, so I ve filled in relevant documents myself and found Finanzamt for my region. Initially tax office claimed whole process should take no more than 3-4 weeks. After 1 month they admitted they did not allocate my case to the clerk yet 
It ended up with me calling them once-twice per week to check if they have processed documents already. End of August it was “mission accomplished”.
