Changing product titles to less than 80 characters

I need to go through all my listings and update the titles to be less than 80 characters if necessary. I’m the only seller and I created all of them.

I presume I can use the Inventory Loader file for this?

Can I leave the majority of columns empty and only update the title or will this mess up the listings?

As the No1 poster on the Amazon UK Forum…shouldn’t you be asking/answering yourself these questions!!? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: lol x

You can use the a bulk upload and just choose “PartialUpdate” in the relevant column.

You will need to fill out SKU, external id type (ASIN is easiest) and external id as well as the item name column.

You sure you want to go for 80 characters? This from Amazon ;

Tips on how to create a great title
Do’s
• Capitalize the first letter of each word (exceptions listed under Do Not)
• Keep the title short, but include critical information
• Use numerals (2 instead of two)
• Spell out “with and “and” instead of using ampersands or w/
100 characters maximum (65 characters or less recommended)
• Keep titles consistent throughout an entire family (Parent/Child relationship)
• ALWAYS check spelling

There never seems to be any sort of consistancy with the Big A :slight_smile:

I’ve also done this took a while but did it straight through the Inventory management page online, then used listing enhancements just to check for any other issues , I noticed Browse nodes keep changing periodically also that will surpress listings.

This blog is good for those that don’t know about the back end keyword change on Amazon;

Can someone share an Amazon link where this is detailed…

A few have mentioned PartialUpdate - but I thought it was worth mentioning that I can’t stress how important it is to put PartialUpdate in the relevant column. If you don’t then it will delete pretty much all existing info for the SKU(s) that you’re adding info to (brand, keywords, specifics etc). I used an upload report to create some parent/child variations recently - forgetting to add “PartialUpdate” - hence had to re-enter everything (for the SKUs concerned)

Another great tip (apologies if you are already aware), is to download (and save) the Category Listings Report every few months. That way if anything went wrong with your existing listings (e.g. account hacked) you have all the info there and ready to re-upload. This can be found as follows: Inventory/Inventory Reports/Category Listings Report/Select relevant category. Then save the downloaded file. I save a copy of this every month or two. If the Category Listings Report is not available to you, then email support and request they make it available.

Is the 80 characters including or excluding spaces?

OK a bit of confusion here, for me that’s normal.

I listed against an item with this title:

MUSIC FOR A COUNTRY GARDEN - A delightful collection of music inspired by the beauty and sensations of the country garden .

I have shortened the title to MUSIC FOR A COUNTRY GARDEN in my page title, will the listing be suppressed due to the original title, or, as i have shorten it on my page item title, will it be ok?

.
