Anyone know the new box measurement limits for shipping into FBA and avoiding crazy high UPS fees?

Hi everyone,

We became aware of a change in pricing for boxes that UPS considered too large (despite complying with Amazon’s policies) by noticing that UPS wanted to charge us CRAZY money for the shipment. We found an article which we had to dig out that explained that the boxes need to be smaller than the typical 2ft x 2ft x 2ft. However, we now can’t find that article as we wanted to confirm what the dimensions were again.

Anyone know, or can anyone point us back to the article?

Thanks,
Leanne

You need to check with UPS for the size of the boxes they will carry.
At least if it’s them that you have the charge from.

Weight is actually the more important thing to be watching as Amazon don’t want anything over 23kg.

From the directions:

Boxes preparation

  • All small parcel delivery boxes must have delivery labels.
  • Do not include messaging on delivery labels or other labels applied on boxes.
  • Carton dimensions should not exceed 63.5 cm on any side, unless the dimension of a single deliverable unit exceeds 63.5 cm in itself.
  • Each box should weigh no more than 23kg, unless it contains one single oversized item that exceeds 23kg. Boxes weighing more than 15kg must be marked “Heavy Package” (viewable from both the top and sides of each heavy-weight container). Cartons weighing more than 23 kg must be broken down into smaller shipment weights.
  • Delivery labels must be consistently placed in a way that is easy to visually locate, either on the top or side of the box. Side placement is preferred.
  • Print the full set of labels. Because each label is unique, do not photocopy, reuse or modify for use on additional boxes.
  • Delivery labels must not be placed on the seam of the box where they can be damaged when the box is opened, which makes the barcodes unscannable.
  • Whenever possible, place delivery labels no closer than 3 cm /1.25 in from any natural edge of the box, in such a way that the tape used to seal the box does not cover any barcode or critical information.

Actually, for anyone interested in this topic, the 330 centimeters as referenced by @NEil above has actually been dropped to 300cm. If you send a 2ft x 2ft x 2ft box (Amazon’s maximum allowed box size) then the calculation works out at 317.50, which is ABOVE their threshold of 300.

It was on UPS’s website, not Amazon: https://www.ups.com/gb/en/shipping/zones-and-rates/additional.page#contentBlock-12
