I cannot add new variation to parent isting. it goes to a stand alone listing instead

Can someone please help me. i am trying to add a variation to a parent listing. when i add the variation it goes to a stand alone listing. and when i add it again through adding asin and sku into the parent listing it let me complete the process but it doesnt actually add it to the parent listing. it still shows as a stand alone listing.

i have been trying to get amazon assistance and its been a week still cannot get the answer. they first asked me to add through file upload it wasnt sucessfull then asked me to add manauly but still nothing working.
Anyone had similar problem and got it right ?

This can be caused by several key issues, firstly and most likely is that the colour/size/style/scent/etc. field on the child is locked and your “suggestion” is not getting accepted and applied to the child ASIN properly.
Try to change the applicable field manually through seller central via the edit button and double-check that the result is shown on the product page. As an alternative try using the “sizename”, “colourname”, etc. fields instead (or vice-versa) and set the variation theme to match (i.e. the colorsize variation theme uses the colour and size attributes while colornameSizename uses the colour Name and Size Name attributes)

Next, check to see whether the child ASIN you’re adding is already in a variation, from the “manage inventory” screen click the “add a variation” button in the upper right and then “add or update an existing variation family”, enter the child ASIN you want to add.

  • If it shows that it’s not in a variation then everything is good.
  • If it shows that it’s in a variation with a parent OTHER than the one you want to add it to, then you’ll need to either delete that parent from your inventory (if you created it, this will erase that variation) or contact seller support to have them orphan the child ASIN.
  • If it shows that it’s already in the correct variation then there’s some other underlying issue.

That can’t have any impact, it’s mostly likely one of the issues above.

It used to be possible to get seller support to create variations for you if you told them the exact specifications, but these days they won’t/can’t create them.

Variations can only be added when you create the listing you cant add it retrospectively, if it is a new listing it may be the EAN has been used at some point as a stand alone then in this case again it could not be added as a variable.

Is there anyway to clear that memory about that asin i tried to add in this parent listing so i can add a new asin in the parent listing.

i had one stand alone listing for size 10 with colour black. so i tried to add the asin and sku for that stand alone listing in the parent listing which didnt work.

now even if i try to add size 10 with black colour without using any asin or sku and add as a new child variation it doesnt accept it. and it becomes a stand alone listing for that size and colour.

Hi,
I had a problem with adding a variation recently. I check the parent listing and the one image on the parent listing was gone for some reason (I’m sure a parent needs at least one image uploaded), I had one put on there before. Uploaded another image and waited a while and it worked. Maybe check over all the titles, images and stuff?

Hello, I ran into the same problem and it has not been resolved until now. The only guess is that the "date first available " of the new ASIN and the old ASIN are too different.
