Amazon Restocking? HELP!
I had a customer who asked for a refund.
We sell clothing, and she choose the wrong size and returned the items as too small.
We issued her the refund excluding 20%. We even refunded her return postage. The 20% was for using new material to repackage and relabel the items in order to sell them again.
Can this be done? It’s for the DE store. The customer is complaining saying we can’t.

No it can’t. Re-stocking fees are not allowed in the UK/EU. You can only make a deduction for loss of value if the item is returned damaged

Thanks, so there is no way to get your costs back? And the return postage cost?

Which country are you in?
If you are in any other country than the one you are selling in, if clothing or any other items, then you have to provide a pre-paid label to return to you, if faulty, or not.
Eg if you are in the UK, and you sold on the DE website, you have to pay for the return with a pre-paid label.
Clothing/Shoes is the worst, as even in the UK to UK, you have to pay for return shipping when unwanted, not just if faulty.
So, basically, we are all paying more for clothing/shoes to cover those returns, so add a % on each item sold to cover returns.
Separate Matter, are they being returned as new. If opened, tried to see if it fits, the tags are still on the item, it does not fit, but you need to put in a new bag and label the bag, then you cannot charge a fee. If it is packaged in some sort of special packaging, and that is damaged, then you may be able to charge a fee, but most clothing are in plastic bags with labels and they cannot be charged for.
If the Buyer removed the makers tags on the garment, so you cannot resell it, or it has signs of being worn/marked, etc, then you can charge a fee. Although not official Amazon seem to say 50% fee is ok if it goes to an A-Z Claim.
If charging a fee, take photos and email to the Buyer why the fee applies.
