Help with listing mugs with my own designs
Hi All,
How easy is it to sell mugs that I’m printing at home via Amazon?
I don’t want to register a brand. But do i have to buy EAN/Barcodes? I’ll likely only be selling via FBM. Can i just create the listing, upload the photos and be ready to go?
Thanks in advance

I’m not really that familiar with this kind of thing.
However, you may be able to get an exemption to list mugs without EAN’s. I’m sure someone will be along to advise on this.
But if these are something that you are creating, perhaps you should be looking at Handmade, rather than regular Amazon.
Or if they don’t fit so well with that, then I would suggest that you look at a brand, as without, they are going to be generic listings and others will be able to list on them.

Have you registered with HMRC as self-employed sole-trader ?
If not you need to do this first as you are running a business, ie. making/selling items for profit.
Amazon will require your UTR and you need to have a Business Seller Account on Amazon, not an Individual Account.

You should be fine to be honest. Look to see if you can apply for a GTIN exemption that may get away from the need to having to buy barcodes for your product.
I don’t think you qualify for handmade. As you correctly say you need to make the product. Sticking a print on the mug probably does not qualify.
The only other thing make sure you don’t get caught out by having any trademarks on your mugs. For example if you print football mugs you wouldn’t be able to use Manchester United, Tottenham logos as these would be taken down by Amazon.

Hi,
You can apply for a gtin exemption which is easy, you can do this through Amazon on the listing or through Printful website, link amazon to account.
Also, amazon has a separate new section named amazon make. Some evidence based to submit on making your own products. That should get you started.
Your can have design requests for mugs or list as normal on the listing.
Hope this helps, below is a few links

I applied for exemption which is a simple process. I would be tempted not to bother with handmade. They sell well on the regular Amazon format. My most popular ones are sent in to FBA which also makes life easier. Good luck
