Safety Data Sheets for a candle brand

I am a Registered Brand and make scented candles. The candle has my Brand Name on the lable and I have named the candle/s according to my branding and market. The essential oils that I put in my candle are NOT manufactured by me but by one of my suppliers and obvioulsy have a name associated to the essential oil, I am not going to call my candle the name of the essential oil I put in my candle! I cannot create a Safety data sheet for my candle scent in my brand name obvioulsy as I did not manufacture the essential oil. I cant supply a SDS in my Brand as I am not the manufacturer of the oil, but Amazon chemical team want a SDS from me? I sent my supplier SDS to them, very confused and dont want to rename my candles according to the oils used. If i called my candle after the oil it would also breach their branding ...any help would be appreciated as some of my listings have now been suspended. I have provided a CLP Lable as to the hazardous substances contained in the oils and it is adhered to the bottom of the product. The listed product is a finished, solid scented candle sold under my brand name. It is not a liquid chemical mixture or a raw fragrance product.

Under UK/EU CLP regulations, finished candles do not require a standalone Safety Data Sheet (SDS). SDS documentation applies to hazardous raw materials used during manufacture, not to the finished candle itself.

Apologies for long post, any assistance from the forum would be grateful

What you need to get to the bottom of is whether an SDS is required by Amazon policy for all candles sold on its platform. If not then you're being treated unfairly, if so you're stuck unless you can produce one.

Quoting law at Amazon won't help unless their policy in some way infinges a law. In this case they would be perfectly within their rights to impose their own policy (if that is the case) which is over and above any law. They'll say it is in the interests of consumer safety and no one can really argue with that.

YOU are the manufacturer meaning that YOU are responsible for the safety of your candles so YOU must provide the SDS, if it’s required.

The SDS covers the safety of the candle as a whole.

I'm in a similar situation to you, in that my business makes scented wax melts. I write SDS for all of my products, and then they are ready as and when amazon request them. I'm a qualified chemist, so it's straightforward to me, but I can see that its probably quite tricky if you're not in that world already! You need a software to write a compliant SDS document for each recipe you have. The one I use is called Hazmix, but there are several others. You know all the declarable chemicals you have in your products from the essential oil SDS from your suppliers, and this forms the basis for your candle SDS. There are useful tutorials on YouTube on how to do this.

I think some essential oil and fragrance oil suppliers provide editable SDS documents at commonly used percentage concentrations. If you use these you just need to alter the product name, manufacturer, contact details etc, and the data sheet would be compliant, as you long as you are making them exactly as described in that document.

I hope that helps, and best of luck!
