VTR - that's it then

Just finished ‘chatting’ to a customer services agent who says “you are required to provide us the tracking ID for all orders”. Even items sent by Royal Mail second class must have a tracking number.

I try to argue that RM second class is not a ‘tracked ship method’ but she disagreed.

The items we sell are low value with a profit of about £1 per sale. We just stick a second class stamp on and away they go.

If we have to pay an extra £1.40 to send them recorded delivery we will need to dramatically increase our prices. And the same items will be much cheaper on Ebay.

I think that’s it for us and Amazon.

But even their help pages say that untracked items won’t count

I hate to say this but all SS advisors are saying the same thing. This is what I was told:

"Starting April 19, 2021, you must provide a valid tracking ID for all your orders and use a tracked delivery method to confirm dispatch of all your self-fulfilled orders"

Either the policy announcement was wrong, or the goal posts have been moved and Tracking is now going to be compulsory on all physical orders.

Did you refer them to the actual policy page because it says…

"The following items are not included in the VTR calculation:

Domestic items delivered by carrier/delivery service provider not integrated with Amazon
Domestic items delivered with untracked delivery services/delivery methods
Digital products, e.g. audio book"

It is becoming quite clear that the SS Left hand doesn’t know what the Right hand is doing and the bit inbetween is confused

I can’t comment on changes to come, but our tracking rate went from 3% to 97% a couple of days ago. Only a small percentage of our products are sent via tracked delivery (some go with APC who aren’t approved, and others go white-glove that aren’t approved). This makes me think that the score will be based on the number of working tracking numbers that are entered - so that customers aren’t receiving flawed information.

I spoke to a Royal Mail Exec and he said: 1st and Second class Large Letters are NOT tracked and DO NOT have a delivery confirmation. Further he said, RM24 AND RM48 are also NOT tracked. RM24/48 do have a delivery confirmation but this delivery confirmation is not automated in the Amazon system.

Not wanting to teach any egg sucking but tracked means a customer can “login” and see where their parcel is in the journey and when they can expect delivery.

Even if you purchase Royal Mail “Signed for” services these are NOT they only have a delivery confirmation when delivered. The tracking number will report “We have your parcel” and that’s it until delivery is scanned at the customers door.

So it really does seem like Amazon:

A: Are a little confused as to how “tracked” shipping is aquired, and recorded?
B: Want everything for themselves FBA?
C: Don’t want to trade with low cost items anymore?
D: Don’t want to trade with Micro and SMall Businesses?

Vote on VTR please, what do you think A, B, C or D?

Personally I think the team or person responsible for VTR need a consultant or an employee who knows about low cost item shipping.

Looking forward to some clarity from Amazon…

Update:

Postage bought through Amazon WILL NOT require a verification scan as Amazon knows these are legitimate ID’s
