Spanish activity certificate (for VIES)
hi,
We have had our Spanish VAt number for a couple of years now, and happily (well not happily) been paying VAT / Filing returns etc, along with all the other countries required as we are FBA and have stock stored in the other countries.
We use Simply VAT to filed our overseas returns, which works well, - however yesterday they sent this message below , asking for a Spanish Activity Certificate… has anyone else had to get them, and if so, what did you ask Amazon customer support for, as I am getting a little stuck.
Cheers,
We recently had a conversation with the ES Tax Authorities and our Tax representative in Spain and according to them a lot of seller’s ES Vat number might show as invalid for cross-border operations within the EU when checking them on VIES. This is due to the fact that all sellers that sell on Amazon and have a ES VAT registration now have to request an activity certificate to be issued for their VAT numbers to be validated on VIES.
This Certificate needs to be requested by the seller to their contact in Amazon. I have checked your ES VAT number and this shows as invalid on VIES which means that you will need to request this certificate to Amazon. Please contact Amazon as soon as possible to request this Spanish activity certificate and let me know when they issue it to you.

In this case, I can only suggest you to open a case with the Seller Support on the Amazon Spain marketplace and request Amazon to provide you with the Spanish Activity Certificate.
I haven’t heard of it despite doing FBA in Spain so it appears to be a specific requirement of the company which you are using to fill your VAT returns.
