FBA Returns and ensuring the same item is returned

We are thinking of using Amazon FBA to sell certain electronic items we sell ourselves through our warehouse. In the past, a item (lets say a phone) is sold via Amazon FBA, and when its returned, it is not the same phone that was sent. We track all phones sold using serial numbers. Does anyone know if Amazon FBA records serial numbers for each device sold and ensures this is the same if it is returned by a customer?

Hi @Seller_2fLaHeDhAA1Ry,

Thank you for bringing this question to the forums.

Amazon typically does not allow returns on electronic items that have been damaged or tampered with by the customer. This can include tampering with serial numbers. You can learn more about that policy at this help page.

However, FBA does not track serial numbers on your behalf unless you are enrolled in the Transparency program. The program is open to brand owners specifically and it does have a feature to track serial numbers in Seller Central.

If you do not enroll in this program then I would suggest keeping track and proof of which products and their serial numbers get sent into FBA in the case you need to claim a reimbursement.

Let me know if that answers your question!

Tatiana
