Amazon have sold me a jail broken mobile phone advice needed?
I wonder if any one can help me. Last week I bought a Moto Z Play mobile phone direct from Amazon. It was on a ware house deal but direct from Amazon, it was described as good condition but made no mention that phone had been tampered with ( jail broken).
I only found out after received phone. Phone would not update, android pay won’t work and Moto mods won’t work. I contacted Lenovo Moto and after talking to them and giving them details. It turns out that phone has been flashed in past and jail broken.
I would not have bought if I had known, where do I stand. Can I return phone as don’t want a flashed phone that can’t be updated and can’t use mods.
Is it legal for Amazon to sell a Flashed phone.
If I return I’m worried that Amazon will try to sell phone again on Amazon to someone else. And some one else will end up in same position.
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advanced.

You can return warehouse deals same as with Amazon normal purchases, just open a return request as ‘faulty’ or, go on CS live chat and explain the fault then request a free return label.

That’s the trouble with returns (which is what most/all warehouse deals are). There is only so many checks that amazon can do when returns come in and is a risk you take when buying warehouse deals. I do often.
The customer could have just said it was a change if mind and other than checking that the phone turns on and all the parts are there, it’s a reasonable assumption that the phone is ok.
You will have no problem returning it.

If I bought a used phone the first think I’d do is re-flash it anyway. That shouldn’t be a problem as it resets the firmware to ‘stock’. You’re then free to update and amend as you feel fit.
If you got a goods deal i wouldn’t make a rash decision just yet, but as others have said, you will be able to return it without any fuss.

what does ‘jail broken’ mean? Just curious - never heard of the term before. How would you know it’s been in jail?

prison phones are usually tiny things that can be smuggled in easily.
And you know this because?..:]
