De-Indexed - new product, new seller

Hello,

I listed a product in mid Feb (my first) which started selling.

However, about 3 weeks ago it became apparent something was wrong, as sales dried up. Digging around (including some helpful responses here, and from Amazon Help), turns out there were some issue, driven by my lack of knowledge.

  • Photo was not on a white background
  • I repeated words in the ‘search terms’ box
  • Verbosity in product feature was an issue

So I have rectified all of these and worked hard to understand how to list ‘properly and professionally’.

The item, whilst showing as live, is still not indexed.

Do I leave it and wait for the algorithms to re-index, or should I just delete the item and start again with it?

Thank you in advance.

G

I found out the hard way that Amazon has a character limit for both the title and the keywords, I can’t remember the limit but if you have put too many keywords in and your title is too long, it won’t show.

How have you formatted your keywords? You don’t need commas etc, it just adds to the char limit

Taken from Sellics, link below;

Update 15.08.2018: Amazon regularly adjusts rules for backend keywords. This post provides an overview of the newest updates for Amazon Backend Keywords.

To be exact the limit is 250 bytes, not 250 characters. In general, characters count as 1 byte. However, there are some special characters such as ‘é’, ‘ä’ or ‘&’, that count as 2 or more bytes. They are not used very often, but please be aware of this distinction. In contrast, punctuation (‘,’ or ‘;’) and spaces do not count as bytes. I.e. when separating your keywords by spaces (as we recommend) you will not need to count the spaces.

Many thanks indeed for your contributions - and the help of others.

The product has re-appeared.

Frustrating as it was; I think it was quite an instructional process both in terms of understanding how to upload products and also how to get help. So I am pleased it’s up and pleased to have learnt.
