Yet another stupid policy due to come into effect tomorrow (30th September) Product compliance whereby you have to fill in a form to submit to Amazon for approval of each new item you list (or that's how I understand it to be) not sure if it still applies when listing against an item that's already gone through the process via another seller, but knowing Amazon they will probably make countless sellers jump through the same hoop for the same product.
It's all to do with safety guarantees that what you're selling is not likely to kill the buyer etc. I thought surely it can't apply to books? guess what it does! Here is Bing's AI response.
"Yes, Amazon’s new compliance requirements, effective from September 30, 2024, will impact all products listed on its platform, including books. Sellers will need to submit and get approval for product compliance documentation before listing any new products. This policy aims to ensure that all products, including books, meet safety regulations and industry standards, creating a safer marketplace for customers."
So many sellers have highlighted Amazon's crazy polices & now that most of us have been moved over to DD+7 many of us don't need much more to finally say "enough is enough" & get off this toxic platform.
If I have to mess around filling in a form every time I list an item & then wait for someone to pull their finger out & reply with approval, then thank you Amazon for making my decision easy in the end, I will be gone! no doubt so will many others!
So I have just rephrased the question with Bing AI & asked if you have to just fill in a form once, example for a book & then once you have done the form once for a book then you can list books after that without filling in compliance forms.
Here is Bing's response.
Starting September 30, 2024, Amazon’s new product compliance policy will require sellers to submit compliance documentation before listing any new products. This means that for each new book you list, you will need to fill out and submit the necessary compliance forms
I am going to see what happens in the coming days but if this is how it's going to be then it won't include me!
How the heck do you get a compliance document for books? Surely that cannot be right.
I don't think you will need to do it for every item.
My understanding is that this only applies to products which require compliance documents. At the moment sellers can list the item and then provide compliance documents at a later date.
Now sellers will have to prove their products have the compliance documents before they go live.
This is actually a positive policy as it ensures every product (that needs to be) is compliant before it is listed.
The bit in the policy kind of indicates the above is correct
Effective September 30, 2024, if Amazon requires you to submit product compliance documents, these must be submitted and approved before you can list the product.
This indicates it is only if the product requires compliance documents.
As usual it could probably be better explained.
So are compliance documents only required for certain types of product?
Hello! @Seller_GPLxAbyNPI33I
This is Roberto. Apologies for the delay on getting back to you, I wanted to follow up on your post and ask if you have faced challenges in listings in the books' category?
We have seen reports from other Sellers on this topic, and they have been unable to list Books without being asked to submit compliance documents, see the thread below:
Compliance document for books?
If you are facing any particular challenge with this, please feel free to share it here, and I will connect with our Compliance teams on this.
