Assuming it is not fashion (which gives free returns regardless of reason) I think your wasting your time trying to prove that the customers return reason was incorrect.

What was the return reason? How can you prove it is incorrect, how do you know it should have been a ‘does not fit return’?

It is virtually impossible to challenge a return reason.

However I believe the only way you could get a reimbursement for a customer return is to open a SAFE-T Claim.
