1400 dead Units add in my inventory Increasing Unexpectedly

1400 Dead Units

I’m dealing with a serious issue where unwanted “dead” units are being added to my inventory. I’m being charged monthly storage fees for these units, yet none of them are selling. Even worse, whenever I do make a sale, the amount is being reimbursed or deducted from my account, and the inventory count continues to increase daily without my involvement.

I originally opened a case on 31st January, but I keep receiving the same generic responses with no proper investigation or resolution. This situation is becoming increasingly frustrating and financially damaging.

Has anyone else experienced something similar, or can advise on how to escalate this issue to get it properly reviewed and resolved?

My inventory has now increased to 1,460 units, even though these units do not belong to me. Because of this issue, I’m being charged around £160 in storage fees every month. The inventory count continues to increase, and I still haven’t received a proper resolution from support.

Could someone please guide me on how to resolve this issue or advise on the best way to escalate it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand why this is frustrating. A large number of unwanted units being added to inventory while storage fees continue is not a normal “slow-moving inventory” problem. It can become financially damaging very quickly, especially if the quantity keeps increasing and Support only gives generic replies.

I had a smaller version of this myself. In my case, FBA added 10 extra units to my inventory even though I had not sent an additional shipment for those units. I contacted Seller Support, but they could not clearly explain which event caused the extra units to appear. The answer I received was basically that the system would adjust itself.

That may be acceptable for a temporary small mismatch, but with 1,400 units and monthly storage fees, I do not think “the system will adjust itself” is enough.

You may need to raise a new case, In the new case, I would avoid asking only “please remove these units,” because Support may treat it as a normal inventory/removal request.

I would ask specifically:

Please escalate this to the FBA Inventory Reconciliation team. I can see the inventory consequence, but I cannot see the source event that created these units. I need Amazon to identify the internal inventory adjustment event, transaction ID, reason code, fulfilment centre record, and fee basis that caused these units to appear and continue generating storage fees.

Before opening the case, try to prepare these numbers:

  • How many units you originally sent to FBA for the affected SKU/ASIN
  • How many units were sold
  • How many were removed, disposed, returned, reimbursed, or adjusted
  • How many Amazon currently shows as sellable, unsellable, reserved, FC processing, FC transfer, stranded, or pending removal
  • Whether the 1,400 units are linked to a real fulfilment-centre location, or only appear through inventory/fee/reimbursement records

The key question is whether these are physical units, inventory reconciliation units, or ledger/ghost units. If they are generating storage fees, Amazon should be able to explain the source event and fee basis, not just repeat the current inventory number.
