Supplier is requesting a VAT number to ship to the Amazon wharehouse

Hi,

I am trying to import goods to the U.K. from China (Direct to the amazon warehouse for FBA)

The supplier said they need my companies VAT number however my company is not required to pay VAT as our turnover is well under the threshold.

The supplier only needs a VAT number to ship to the amazon warehouse.

Do amazon provide a VAT number for me to give to the supplier?

Hope you can help,

Tom

Imports from some countries, notably those outside of the UK do not have a threshold and if you want to import you need to register for tax.

To import you need either VAT number or EROI number if you are not VAT registered.

You will need to arrange for import duty and VAT to be paid before delivery to Amazon, as they will not accept any Customs charges.

I would consider importing the goods to your address and checking them
Before forwarding on to Fba, especially if you have nobody in China that can do a q.c check. If you have a trustworthy rep in China then suppose it’s ok but so many things can go wrong, wrong barcodes, wrong packaging, faulty goods to name
A few.

More for the benefit of the neggers who must thing no duty, or VAT needs paid before release by UK Customs, but may also be of interest to you and support some of the advice already offered;

If you are importing goods from a chinese sweat shop then feel free to do so, but be careful as many goods are questionable to begin with and any faulty goods is down to you.

I knew a first class seller on here who not so many years ago purchased some mobile phones, the first batch of 4 thousand pound worth were perfect and sold out in a day, obviously he was excited by this and who wouldn’t be, with his profits and a loan from the bank he ordered 40 thousand pounds worth, when they arrived many were dud and he promptly got kicked off of Amazon for selling faulty phones to the public, well allegedly the phones were faulty, a few weeks later the exact same phones were being sold by Amazon themselves, my friend lost a business that was turning over 10 grand a week, and ended up killing himself, leaving a wife and 3 children behind. I am not making suggestions here BUT … I will leave it at that, do the maths.

even with agents in china you have to be extremely careful. often they get bribed by the factories.

Thank you everyone.

I will have the ships shipped to my address and check the goods are in the correct condition to be delivered to amazon.
