Cannot get GTIN exemption for personalised product using generic as the brand

I am so frustrated all morning I have been trying to sort this - i’m selling custom printed car air fresheners, which I produce and print. following the instruction to get a GTIN exemption i select the category and then put “Generic” in the brand box. The next page says this brand is registered and i need to look for the barcode on the packaging, i entered the term “Generic” correctly. i tried to contact support so many times but im hitting a brick wall. i can see others have had this issue but i cant find a solution. my account is new but i have gone through verification with a video call etc, all confirmed. this was done a couple of weeks ago.

Have you been asked to upload any photos of the product showing there is no barcode ?

Are you listing in the main catalogue rather than handmade ?

Have you also uploaded your UTR and confirmation letter from HMRC ?

Hi yes they have all UTR etc all information requested was uploaded and i had a video call and confirmation emails. i couldnt get that far with the GTIN exemption so it asks you to put in the product category and then asks you to put in the brand name. it states if there is no barcode or its unbranded to enter “Generic” as the brand name. on the next screen i am unable to click the button that takes you to the page where you submit the photos etc. it just says this brand requires a GTIN.

i am accepted to handmade, i would list them there but customers can only upload photos (for printing) if you use amazon custom. so it needs to be listed in the main catalogue

i did that originally but it got refused. however after reading a bit more i think its because i just sent 1 photo. ive just tried again sending ALOT of photos with packaging etc etc. hopefully that works.
thank you very much for responding to my questions I have waste nearly a whole day on this. i still dont understand why i cant do generic like the for says to do. but i think doing via my brand might be a way to go.

One and the only time, when I encountered a related issue and actually reached someone with up-to-date knowledge, the answer was: “Generic doesn’t work anymore”.

Im able to sell personalised with Generic but it only allows generic in certain categories such as home. Some categories though for generic you need to supply photo’s where as some categories I didn’t. Books for example wont allow me to use or apply generic without applying for exemption and supplying photo’s of products but the home section I could get exemption without supplying photo’s immediately . Not sure what the crack is
