New user - brand questions?

I am only 1 month into my Amazon FBA journey and although excited by it, am getting confused by a couple of things, which I hope somebody here will be able to help with ?

I have a GS1 account in my Limited Company name and have created a barcode for a future product (which is produced in China generically) I wish to list. If I choose a “brand name” on GS1 and then use that same brand name in the Product Listing in Seller Central I get an error as it is not listed in the Brand Registry - as I dont want to wait 3 months and get a proper registered trademark.

If I put the brand as N/A on the GS1 form and the same in my product listing and choose EAN and enter my 13 digit barcode number, it still errors…

Could it be because my GS1 account is in my Ltd Co name and my Amazon seller id is a “trading as” name, i.e. PlatypusInc?

What I dont understand is how every other listing in my category, all of my competitors have a brand name listed - mainly Chinese users - and I would be surprised if each of the brand names used is a proper registered trademark.

I guess I could apply for a GTIN exemption and go with Generic in the brand - but that without my own barcode would leave me open for “hijackers” to jump on my listing with the same product…

Any help and advice, greatly appreciated !
Thanks
DP

Hi, if its a new brand you will need to register it in the brand registry you will also need to have and trademarked and send evidence to support this.
Not a quick process but will be worth it if the product is a fast moving one.

(Brand registry rather than brand exemption gives you much more control over your products, and also allows you access to the A+ Content Manager to make beautiful product descriptions!)
