Read onlyFor anyone with a business collection or in the know. Previously with a collection I was given a laminated sheet with my FIR number and barcode on for the driver to scan at each collection. I have moved and just started my collection back up and the new driver says they dont do that anymore and they keep it in a folder in the van? surely that isn't correct as I have many times needed the FIR number myself for different royal mail contact forms.
can I ask if you have a collection how they collect for you, do they scan everything ion the van or at your premises. He also wanted to take the manifests and scan them in his van too?
They scan the FIR code at our premises which we keep on the wall by the door where the post is collected.
Don't know if it is different in different areas but you are right Customer Services do often ask for the FIR code...I was asked for it a month or so back when we had an issue with our collection
If it was held on the Van then the postie would need to make sure they come out with it. We have different drivers and vans each day so not sure how that would work.
Our FIR is by the collection point and scanned daily - not sure how you are set up with Royal Mail but you usually have to send a certain amount to not pay an annual charge for collections so I'd make sure this is being recorded (having said that I'm not sure how it works exactly). We hand manifests over daily to the postie with the sacks of post. Did you get a new FIR sheet for your new address?
If Royal Mail collect from you - they need an FIR barcode at point of collection, as they scan that and the manifest to cofnfirm collection. If you move premises, they normally provide a new FIR barcode as your legal entity might the same but the collection point will change
Ours is taped to the window, they always scan it, nothing else has ever been mentioned.
This is of course assuming they can be bothered to turn up, which sometimes they don't if there's bad traffic, or local flooding, or a tyre blows up, or the van breaks down, or they just 'run out of time and don't bother'.!!
