Question about cancelling orders
Hello.
I believe I already spoke to customer support in the past but to be honest i’m not confident in what they had to say after my experiences of cancelling orders. I feel like sometimes the item changes its quantity back and other times not, so i’m not sure - if anyone can clarify this would be really appreciated.
So my question is basically when you cancel a buyer’s order, will the item automatically update the QTY to 1 from 0 for example? or do I have to manually change the quantity back to 1? (i’m fairly confident when I asked CS about 1 year ago they said it would revert automatically, but then I noticed that this did not seem to happen, had stock stuck in storage without being sold and lost trust in it - but perhaps something else was the cause, not sure).
Perhaps it differs depending on how the item is cancelled?
Sometimes I get buyers request a cancellation through a message and sometimes I have to cancel it my end for whatever reason from time to time. Same for all sellers on Amazon I would imagine.
This situation causes some issues for me I think (in regards to stock being stuck in storage without even being listed).
I am always scared to change the quantity back manually, in case it causes an oversell.
I notice when I check “cancelled orders”, that quite often buyers might “change their mind” and cancel it somehow their end without me even realising! sometimes I scroll through cancelled orders after a few months of not checking it and don’t even recognise some of the cancellations (because the buyer cancelled it themselves), so I have to do a stock check and see what i’ve still got. It’s a nightmare to be honest with you, if I left it years without taking action I could have tons of stock that is sitting there and not even being sold!
Does anyone have the answers?

I would suggest you invest in an inventory management system.

My experience is that if its cancelled after the order is complete it doesn’t go back into stock but if its cancelled after being pending it does
