Returns seller now having to pay
So I have received my first 2 returns of tap shoes approved by Amazon with return postage payable by myself.
Both aproved by Amazon and I cannot alter the return payment details.
First pair reason was “Not what I needed sorry” and second pair was “no longer needed”. Why on earth should the seller have to pay for returns on these .??? Firstly the first buyer can see the oic and description of the shoes and secondly 2nd buyer you know if you need these or not surely!!!
I am not at a loss on these 2 products and cannot continue like that. Sole proprietors have no chance against Amazon whatsoever. Disgusted

Hey.
Just looked through Amazon’s policy and it is actually a scam against the customer-
"If your return is not the result of an Amazon error, and you’re using a pre-paid return label, we’ll deduct the cost of the return from your refund. For returns from within the UK, costs start at £3.99. "
so it will cost the customer £3.99 to return something that should have cost them £1.60
As I can’t afford to lose this money every time I will unfortunatley have to do the same as Amazon and deduct it from the customer.

So firstly welcome to the seller forums @Active_Dancewear and @Ice-Tees, as this is your first day I feel it only proper to point out that you can use the search function to find one of the other 87364 posts on this subject or you could go to the forums home page and you will see most of teh threads are about this very subject.

Because returns in the Fashion category (clothes, shoes, watches and jewellery) are ALL free, seller pays the return postage not matter what the reason. Has been for quite a while now

No point trying to argue with Amazon. They will always be right (even when they are wrong)
You just need to adapt to the forced free returns in fashion/footwear etc and accept that while customers can return lots of items by Royal Mail for £1, you will be forced to accept Amazon return charges of £3-£4.
- Increase prices to cover the cost of returns (i.e. all of your customers will effectively pay extra to cover the percentage of those who return).
We’ve increased about 50% of our lines by £1-£1.50 (remember Amazon will still take 15% of whatever increase you apply).
- Remove items from sale on Amazon.
We’ve removed around 2,000 SKUs and moved elsewhere, so our customers will no longer be able to purchase a large amount of these on Amazon anymore.
- If you offer free postage consider charging for postage.
This may reduce sales but it is a way to recoup some of the extra charges that Amazon will apply to returns. Again effectively all customers will be paying to cover the smaller percentage who return.
- Do nothing and accept your bottom line will be significantly worse.
If we left prices/listings as they were we our bottom line would be around £3000 worse annually.

There are only 2 rules when selling on Amazon…
-
Amazon is ALWAYS right.
-
If Amazon appears to be wrong, refer to rule number 1.

Then you are both now aware that sellers do not have to pay for returns. Your OP said “now having to pay” so I assume you are referring to the new prepaid label policy.
You do not have to pay for that in most cases.
Whether your dancewear are also deemed as clothing or fashion is another question. I would say that Amazon do class them as clothing etc.
I could list a kettle in the apparel category and it would get treated as clothing.

i assume dance/gym etc shoes could sit in Sports & Outdoors - whether amazon treat this differently, I don’t know

Has anyone yet had a request where the return label cost is higher than the order?
