Postage costs in the UK

I sell books on Amazon. Up to now I have had a postage price of £2.80 on all items and on a few occasions have lost money as some are larger and heavier and have therefore exceeded the normal postage. I now have a heavy and somewhat larger book than normal to sell and although I haven’t weighed it know that it will be far above the £2.80 mark. Is there any way I can alter the postage charged above the normal cost just for this one item. .

Only if you have a pro account (£25 +VAT pm)
Amazon only ever provide a contribution towards shipping costs that does not reflect the actual postage charges which can vary seller to seller depending on which carrier they use, contracts in place - quantity discounts size weight, volume etc.
With a Pro Account you can enter the shipping costs you wish to charge. Many sellers offer free delivery.
But with an individual basic account, sellers cannot alter the set shipping charges so have to compensate by increasing the cost of their item to cover any postal charges.

You could use MyHermes via Parcel2Go, you get 2Kg for a reasonable price. Don’t forget add more on the item price as you have to pay commission to Amazon etc.

Hermes are not as good as Royal Mail though.

I’ve also mentioned before Despatch Bay are good for items over 2Kg - they use Parcelforce or Yodel and if you use regularly ask for discounts as the discounts are good.

They are offering £25 free parcels to try them out, you need this link: https://despatchbay.com/start/22381

If you have a daily Yodel collection, they also have a tracked 3Kg small parcel rate at just over £3 a parcel + VAT (up to 20 x 35 x 45cm).

Hope that helps.

With the Individual Selling Plan, the only option how you could cover your shipping expenses, which are exceeding the allowances set by Amazon would be to increase the product’s price.

Or in order to be able to charge your own shipping costs, upgrade your Selling Plan into Professional, which can be done through this link:

And here you can find the Selling Plan comparison:
