People's Experience With Moving Home And Selling On Amazon

Hi All as the title suggests we are thinking of moving home, currently live around Birmingham but thinking of going down to Cornwall/Devon.

I’m assuming this shouldn’t have any bearing on sales if I’m doing the same thing, having built up my business to a level where hopefully it can look after both me and my wife we would like to try pastures new.

Has anyone done anything similar and what if any was the effect on your business ? Any advice would be/ will be greatly appreciated,

Cheers
Steve

No it shouldnt make any difference to your business but as suggested put your holiday mode on and I get your bank, HMRC and ID changed before notifying Amazon incase you are reverified
I moved house 2yrs ago and I think they wanted a copy of my bank statement which I had ready so it was verified in 24hrs

When I moved 10 years ago, I turned on holiday mode until settled in new home. You will need to get re-verified with Amazon with your new address though.

We’re doing the same but different direction - Birmingham to the Lake District !

We’re going in 6 weeks, we’ll put our holiday settings on for a couple of weeks.

We’re fortunate that the property we have purchased has outbuildings so can go back to working ‘from home’

When we moved into our current commercial premises 3 years back, we just had to go through verification again which at the time was straight forward but i must admit that I am dreading it this time !

My biggest concern would be if anyone at the new address has ever previously had a suspended Amazon account - as our new address is private I think there’s less risk than a commercial unit but who knows !

Good luck !

oh and as daft as it sounds - the first thing we did before looking at properties was checking if there was a Royal Mail depot near by !

Can’t imagine it would have any effect ? After all, your physical location is irrelevant ? You put things in the post, and communicate via email ?

You’ll possibly find your courier rates and shipping times impacted for some locations. Birmingham is pretty much the national sorting hub for the whole country due to it’s location. If you use couriers you will probably find service delivery times and even possibly pricing will rise shipping from Cornwall to remote northern locations. Your trunk connections may leave earlier (so your collections might be earlier) etc.

I’d suggest talking to courier reps down there if you use 3rd party vs. RM.

Moved my book business out of London to Durham where the properties are cheaper and there’s more space, with radically lower costs. Best thing I ever did - never looked back. Critical for me was the location of a good nearby Post Office and that has proved to be a key part of the move going smoothly and keeping a flow of orders going out with minimum hassle. The last thing you need when you are under time constraint is to have to get in your car to run 12 miles to a tiny counter in a Spar where there is 1 person serving, who is also clock watching. Having said that, Hermes could pick up too, but you need choice I think. I won’t mention HMRC / holiday settings as other people have covered this. Good luck with the move!

You might also want to negotiate with Amazon about setting up a second selling account to manage the transition. They were very helpful.

Mind you, things might have changed in the six years since I did it.

I moved just over 2 years ago. I literally just changed my address on the settings page and then delted my old address from the consumer Amazon page account.

Worth noting that last week I found during Verification that my old address was somehow showing on the

Settings > Business Information > Identity Information page

along with my old phone numbers and a very old email address. All of my info has been valid with my new details so I guess this has been like this with my old deets for over 2 years!

Other than that I didn’t do anything or inform anyone. HMRC got updated obviously.
