5-htp
I sell a vitamin supplement that contains 5HTP extract, recently classified as a novel food in UK/ Europe. Amazon has removed my detail page and tells me I can’t sell it for this reason.
What i don’t understand is why hundreds of other products can sell 5HTP on Amazon website and are not restricted?? I cannot get a comment from Amazon. Can anyone provide any explanation/ advice?

Amazon have a big catalogue - they will have to work through it.
Just because yours has been identified - it doesn’t mean others will have been - but they should be identified eventually.

A quick search, shows that product was actually banned for sale in the UK, back in 1989.
If that is the case, then it will be on the list of banned products for Amazon.
If it has only recently been changed, then it’s extremely unlikely, that it has been removed from the banned list yet. As such, it will be against the rules to sell it on Amazon.
That is irrespective of any other products on Amazon, that are selling this supplement.
All it really means, is that Amazon hasn’t caught up with them yet.

Thanks for this. It’s a grey area re sale of novel foods, and I think the latest ruling for the UK was driven by a European decision. I’m surprised that Amazon with all their technology can’t just turn everyone off in seconds, but they don’t seem to have. CBD (cannabidiol, as in cannabis) now has the same classification, but Amazon don’t seem to be doing anything about that either.
While I’m not expecting anything to change re my listing, I’m just surprised by the inconsistency and the slow pace of their actions. And disappointed by their reticence to engage.
