Customer Return

I have a customer who is asking for a Royal Mail return label to return his item.
He took it with the Hermes label to few drop off points but they won’t accept it.
It’s much easier with Royal Mail returns label.

I replied asking him to contact Amazon Customer Support to get a new Hermes label.

Then Amazon Customer Support emailed me, as if from the customer, asking me to provide a Royal Mail label. The customer has also changed the return reason from No Longer Wanted to Defective.

I think the customer has realised that he will have to pay with the Hermes label. I have pushed backed on him to contact Amazon Customer Support to get a new Hermes label. I hope I have done the right thing?

Why are they not accepting it - did he say ?

Ask him which drop-off point is refusing to accept the package. Tell him you will get in touch with them to investigate. I’m sure they will then miraculously accept it.

When you receive a prepaid label there are clear instructions when and how to return the order so I am puzzled why you would go to Hemes collection point instead of Royal Mail. Also I thought prepaid returns were automatically generated therefore the is no actual choice as to which courier can be selected.

My other concern if the order never arrives back then we will not know whether the order was returned in accordance with the returns policy.

Hermes drop off points and collection drivers can be a pain. We regularly get parcels that are within Hermes constraints being refused as “too big”. The reason is that the drivers have a set number of pick up shops to collect from and if they dont collect from all of them they get penalised in their pay. Therefore they wont pick up larger packages a lot of the time due to them not wanting to get the van completely filled and not being able to collect from their last few locations even though the parcels are within Hermes constraints. The pickup shops therefore refuse to take the parcels as they just sit round their shops blocking everything in. (Info from my friendly neighbourhood pick shop owner).

Why not just send a royal mail label to him? Would reduce the chance of an a to z coming.

Plus if he never used the first label, why would he need to contact amazon to get a new one?

I again referred the customer to Customer Support to sort out the label, and asked which Hermes shops would not accept the parcel and this is their responses. Surely, if Amazon provide the label then it is for Customer Support to sort out, as they have now decided to automate the return system:

  1. Yeh, my husband went to Tesco and he went to Co-op too.
It wasn’t a no from their end but the label was scanned and it said not valid.

2)I know few friends who have had the same problem with the Hermes returns label.
It just appears to be invalid when scanned.
They have been sent Royal Mail returns label in return which made me ask for one too.
There was no need to be so rude with regards to this as we do for the items too, you don’t just send them out to us for free.
Your email previous to this one was very rude.
I did contact Amazon customer services and they said they will pay me for my return postage.
Never will I be buying from you in the future.
No manners to talk at all.

I had an issue with a Hermes label where the shop I took it to claimed that there were two different types of return label and some drop-off points can’t accept one of them. I was unable to return the parcel at either of the shops that are drop off points in my town and was told that the nearest one that would was in a town a few miles away, which is where I was finally able to get my parcel sent from. The whole thing sounded very odd to me but I wonder if this could be something similar?
