CE Certificate for a baby product?

Hi All,

So I’m hopeing some of you guys could give me some advice here.

My first product selling on Amazon has just been manufactured which is in the baby category and it is close to the point of being shipped.

But my manufacturer was getting a shipping quote for me and said the freight forwarder needed a CE certificate to get through customs in Europe?

Does anyone here know if this is true? I need a CE certificate for a baby product?

I hope this doesn’t come back to bite me, its been smooth sailing up to now but I don’t want to risk getting my units stuck in customs either.

Hopefully some of you guys might know, If i can avoid getting it I will because I haven’t even tested the product yet.

Really appreciate any advice.

Cheers.

Of course, it needs a CE certificate, to prove it complies with all the relevant UK/EU regulations. Do you want to import baby products, or anything else, that could harm the user? And it needs to be a genuine CE certificate, not a Chinese fake

As mentioned, yes you’ll need the CE mark. Lots of detailed info here.

The ‘baby sector’ is quite a wide category. Many baby products do not need a CE mark and do not come under any UK/EU safety regulations. It is then up to you to do your own risk assessment and testing and have that documentation available should there be a claim/incident on that item.

However, there are certain segments such as pushchair systems, cots and car seats that are heavily regulated. It would be wise to have full safety documentation in place before you even start to design a product in this segment or you will inevitably fail to get the item to market.

A lot of CE is self-certification, but if you’re able to do that then you need to prove you’ve done the relevant safety testing.

Hey Guys,

Thank you very much for the all the information here, this is really helpful.

After going through the list of products on Gov.uk website that need CE marking I’m pretty sure that my product is not falling under any of the categories that needs to have a CE marking.

Since this product is my first product and is already manufactured now and ready to be shipped I think i should be safe enough to have it shipped now but I just wanted to double check with some of you guys that have the experience.

It’s all a learning process.

Thanks very much for the help again.
