Merging Stand alone lsitings to make variations
HI, I have been looking at how to do this manually rather than the file upload as looking at the template it seems very daunting. I was wondering if anyone had a method, I have been researching it and the way that seemed to work till last month does not seem to work anymore. Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.
Thanks

You can do it through the add product interface on seller central.
You can create a new parent product and assign your stand alone listings as variations. Just make sure you use the same ASIN/EAN and SKU when you assign your stand alone listings.

However, if the Brand/Manufacturer attribute are different on any of the variations (it should not be but sometimes is) you cannot use either method.
Been there - and just get in a loop as no one can make the necessary changes

Use a flat file. Once you will get familiar with it you will appreciate how powerful tool it is.

You can try looking in Catalogue - Complete Drafts as sometimes their is an unreported error but it has been saved as a draft and you get more information about the problem.

Having the same problem all week, it seems not to accept certain variations, ie number count and you cant progress without a new EAN which for a parent listing doesn’t make sense.
eventually i used colour as the theme and the ASIN of the items on the variation page.
This worked created a parent listing and its combined the listings and added the reviews, however !
They have a new SKU, i have lost my rank Im gone from top of page one to page three and it still shows the item as a variation and the single old sku on my inventory.
i was thinking i messed it up but looking at this post looks like a glitch

It can also refuse to save if any of the Child Variants have a different department listed than each other or than the Parent listing.
When it fails to save after trying to, sometimes changing the section you’re on can cause any errors to show up. E.g if you’re on images, switch to Product Details.
If not working after that, your best bet is to combine using the Upload Inventory File method to do a PartialUpdate to define the Parent-Child relationship.

We had the same problem and after 10 support tickets and 3 conversations with our account manager we have given up, it just will not save.
We have finally figured out how to do an upload file and it works very well, in the end you need to fill in only like 10 fields, super easy once you know the fields, there are several youtube videos about this.

Did you try the variation creation wizard to create your upload file rather than doing one from scratch. It is a huge time saver and less daunting if your products are already listed.

I too am having the same issue as the OP above, completed all ‘required’ fields, hit save & finish, the box greys out and the loading circle spins, and then nothing… the save box then becomes blue again.
No errors, all fields completed as necessary, and rather frustrating as I have been able to do this in the past no issue.
I only want to create a new parent listing, so that all my existing childs can be combined into the variation family.
My issue now is, how do I go about creating a new parent listing when it will not have an EAN, but if I select that it has variations it requires me to fill in the variations, but then wont save >.<

I have the same problem. I read everything but I didn’t find a solution to the problem. Uploading a file is not an option. It’s very confusing. There is no good information on how to do it.So far I have not had a problem with parent children asin. If there are any changes amazon should announce them or if there are errors they should be in red.
