Postage using Evri (Hermes)
Have used the RM for many years to ship my orders then a friend said to now try Evri as they were a lot better, I have used them for about a month to send parcels under 1kg and all seemed OK now I am finding that they are charging me extra as they say I am posting things as heavy as 1.3kg and it costs an extra £3.68 for each parcel and yes I did have one on monday where it was just thrown into somebodys garden. Will now go back to RM as I find them much better, Suppose I just wanted a mini rant

Were you previously averaging under 1kg or was each item less than 1kg?
Surely if they are saying that an item is more than 1kg and it isn’t, you can challenge it?
Not that I would recommend using Evri, they are a nightmare.

The old saying “If it aint broke, dont fix it” applies here I think. Evri are known to be a nighmare to deal with, although it seems that most large retailers use them these days.
With Royal Mail, depending on what service you use you can average weight, we use tracked 24 and 48, and have an average weight of 1kg, but can send up to 20kg parcels at the same rate, as long as our average comes in at 1kg. Evri are different to this as they measure each parcel, and will penalise you if just a couple of grammes over, you dont get the credit for lightweight ones as you can with Royal Mail to put towards the heavy ones.
Bear in mind as well the RM have no surcharges for Highland and off-shore locations, Guernsey, Jersey or Northern Ireland which Hermes do, so you do have factor these in as well when considering cost.

Your friend was having a laugh recommending Evri. Don’t listen to their nonsense about their laser precision weighing and measuring scales. Always ask for photographic proof of overweight/oversized parcels as they are never able to back up their false claims.
I had an email during the week from a pet food company I’ve previously ordered from which sums up the problem even retailers have with Evri:
"The End of Hermes…
Firstly and bestly - we’ve finally ditched the brand formerly known as Hermes, Evri.
We simply couldn’t have done it before this year as we just didn’t have the volume of parcels to affordably switch couriers.
We’ve moved the Hermes option to Royal Mail tracked 48 hours. We tested Royal Mail for a while and the difference was utterly obvious.
It is a more expensive option for the company but in terms of you getting the best customer service possible this was a move just waiting for the go go go.
As ever if you have any shipping or packing issues just let us know and we’ll get it sorted for you, but hopefully that just became a lot less likely."
