How to determine if an item is PL

Good evening

I am trying to determine if I can sell a certain product. When I type the barcode in Catalogue> sell a product i get the option to ‘sell this product’. However there are no other FBA sellers selling the item. On SellerAmp it says PL with 2 FBM seller. Is this a red flag? Please could you advice.

Thank you

Selleramp and other sourcing tools will automatically flag an item as a “PL” warning if there are less than 3 FBA sellers on the listing. Quite often this isn’t the case however it is one to be mindful of. You’re better off doing some research on the current sellers and taking a look at the following:

Are any of the sellers the brand name?
Does the brand have a history of filing IP complaints?
Use SAS to check the keepa graphs, has there been a sudden drop of sellers?
How long has the listing been established?

The morale of the story is, any brand at any point could throw 3rd party sellers off their products if they wish but if you do your due diligence in the first place then it can eliminate a lot of the red flags early doors, sounds like you’re doing OA, if this is the case and you’re fairly new, get some Keepa training under your belt before listing any products.

Edit - Don’t pay for keepa training. There are plenty of videos out there FOC about how to use it.

The correct way to list is to take the barcode from your product and go to seller central - catalogue - add a product and type the barcode into the search
If your product comes up, and the details and most importantly the brand name matches, you should be ok to list on that asin

However, you should only list as new if you have bought from wholesalers / suppliers or the brand directly and not from another retailer

If you bought from a retailer, you need to list as used but there is no guarantee buying from another retailer that the brand will allow you to sell on Amazon
