Amazon sponsored ads scam

I’ve been running an auto campaign for quite some time and regularly download reports to see how I can make improvements. In particular I’ve been adding negative keywords for non-productive search terms. In theory my ACOS should be coming down, however quite the opposite is happening.

It seems the problem is that my ads are now showing more on similar products. Fine if they convert, but a lot do not simply because some of the other products are of a much cheaper quality. So if a buyer has commited to buying a cheap product and then my ad shows up, they might click on it and have a nosey but they don’t want to buy.

I’ve tried adding the other ASIN’s in as negative keywords but that doesn’t seem to work.

Why can’t Amazon let you filter out non-productive ASIN’s?
Are long term auto campaigns just a waste of money?

Yes, in my opinion, sponsored ads is a scam. They have never brought in any extra money for us.

We seem to have a daily/weekly/monthly limit and that’s all we are allowed to sell.

Checking over our VAT returns for Amazon over the last couple of years I noticed that we’re pretty much (sometimes within just a few £s) returning the same figure.

I can run a campaign for a month and then stop and while for a short period of time there’s a drop in sales, it soon goes back up… and likewise, when we start a campaign we seem to have a slight jump in sales, but that soon stops and we’re back to where we were.

yep. my biggest issue is that it is hard to get sponsored ads for new products.

One of the reasons why I’d want to run a campaign is when I introduce a new design. But Sponsored Ads only like to show products that have a good sales history so you end up advertising products which are on the first page of search anyway.

I’ve run quite a few campaigns and they are generally not profitable.
