Competitors using our company / brand name in their search terms?

Have just noticed today when I search on Amazon.co.uk for our Company name (which is also our brand name), 2-3 other competitor’s products turn up in the search. This did not happen several weeks ago. I’m assuming that these other companies have added our unique company/brand name to some of their product search terms. Amazon state not to use repetition, competitor brand names or ASINS as search terms. Is there another reason why competitor products might turn up in the search?
If they are using our company name in their search terms what can I do about it?
Regards
P

If they’ve used your company name in their titles, bullet points etc as well as their search terms then they will appear.

If you’re searching with just your brand name, then you’re probably assuming correctly.

You could create a case and report Search Term Abuse. Worth a try.

When you search for any given item, no matter how specific your search terms are, A9 will attempt to show results for similar items, although how many other items are displayed is based on how accurate the search engine thinks it is.
as an example: if you search for “sports socks” you will of course see lots of sports socks in the results, but you’ll also see other types of socks that are from the same brands or that share some other common attributes, there’s no way to know whether or not these other socks have “sports sock” in their search terms but they’re not forced to.

The only way you could find out is by asking Amazon to check for you.

Nothing, really.
Unless the description, title, or product images are using your name then they’re not breaking any rules.
As other posters have said, other sellers ‘similar’ items will always appear in searches anyway, but it’s what a consumer would expect.

Think about it, if you typed any brand name in to any search engine, you’d expect to see that brand appear, but you’d also expect to see alternatives too.
Try it on google, type in any brand, click ‘shopping’, and you’ll see a ‘Shop Similar Brands’ area appear in the searches. The only way that can occur is if the ‘similar’ brands have been (at least tentatively) linked to the original by keywords.

The way that search engines work (including Amazons) is also based on popularity of results. If people are often typing your company name in, but then go on to buy a competitors product, the logic is that what they’re really looking for is the competitors product. The search engine is likely to start pre-empting that, keywords or not.

is your company pet card shop?

As sellers get 5 different search term columns, theres nothing stopping them from having

Pet in column one,
Card in column two
shop in column 3

Not breaking any actual law in doing that as far as I am aware with the words seperated into seperate columns, maybe if your company name is one word then it shouldn’t effect you as much.

pet / card / shop

all common words, you can’t really expect to own it.

Its worth contacting the seller direct. Let them know you are the brand name and will contact Amazon If they don’t remove the listing or change the title. It normally works. Amazon do encourage sellers to base their product on other listings and mistakes do happen with those new to selling on Amazon so maybe give them the benefit of the doubt to start with and see what happens
