To send as SPD or LTL?

Hi All

Apologies for the question if it has been asked before.

I am in the process of sending a shipment, the largest to date,17 boxes in total. I thought in my ignorance I’d have to send them as a pallet, but once I uploaded the data for all of the boxes, I was given the option to send the boxes as SPD (split into 2 shipments) or LTL. I would prefer to send as SPD as it is much cheaper,

As this is my first time doing this, I have an (irrational) fear that for some reason, UPS won’t take the boxes due to the quantity.
My question is what is the maximum number of boxes that can be sent as SPD?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I believe UPS have a maximum of 30 boxes that you can send on a single shipment to FBA so you should be fine with 17

I would make it clear when you book in the shipment you have 17 boxes (you stipulate this on the UPS web form). They do look at this (My UPS guy never brings a trolly for 1 or 2 boxes but does for several boxes)

I think on the day though it will depend if they have room on the truck though if they can take them all. You could of course send any they can’t take the next day.

Unless the boxes are particularly large/heavy, then I can’t imagine it’s worth sending via pallet. You may be on the borderline here though.

However, if Amazon are splitting the shipment, then nothing you do will be able to change this, as they will want the products to go to different centres.

But if you just want to send in boxes, then simply create a smaller shipment and do two or three of them instead.

Thank you, Smiley_Guy and Neil for your responses. This is super helpful. I will send my boxes as SPD. I have stipulated that I am sending 17 boxes on the web form.

In regards to Amazon wanting to split the shipment in two. The 17 boxes are currently on a pallet organised by weight. Do I need to ensure the shipments are separated for the UPS driver based on the way Amazon split them?

Thank you
