Do I need a UK VAT number to use FBA from Ireland

Hello, I’m a new seller and am somewhat overwhelmed with the FBA process. I am based in Ireland and want to sell across Europe. I read somewhere that I need a UK VAT number in order to send and store my products there. Is that true? What other options are there for an Irish seller selling in Europe?

Also, I note that I have to manually add my products to each marketplace which seems crazy. Is there a better way to do it, maybe using spreadsheet?

Any help and advice appreciated for an Irish novice.

No unfortunately within the EU - (including the UK) you must register for VAT in any country other than your country of residence if you store stock there.

If by Ireland, you mean Eire, then yes, to store stock in the UK, you need to be VAT registered.
If NI, then no.

You can add products via file upload. But to be honest, unless you are fairly experienced with that kind of thing, then you will probably find it harder to do.

Have you registered as a business seller?

Yes am registered and have an Irish business VAT number. So unless I register for VAT in UK, I should choose another marketplace to send shipment? I suppose those products would still be available to UK customers, right?

If you send any goods to store in any country in the EU, then you will need to register for VAT in that country.
Without doing that, the only way that you can fulfil orders from Ireland, is to send them yourself.
Unfortunately, as Ireland doesn’t have an Amazon site yet, you can’t even use EFN.

Thanks. Does an Irish VAT number not suffice for the rest of EU?

I doubt it. But you need to check that out yourself.
What I know is based from the UK and not Ireland.

Or to put it another way, prior to Brexit, being VAT registered in the UK was not sufficient.
Though I know that the rules have changed, I find it highly unlikely that it will be any different for Ireland.

Not when holding stock in that country, you’ll need to register for VAT in that case.
