Changing from Sole Trader to Limited Company

Hello,

I am thinking about changing from Sole Trader to a limited company in UK.
Can somebody with this experience offer some insight on the process?
Is it pretty straightforward…?
Thank you

Very straightforward…providing all your documentation is in order, and I mean, “in order”. If it’s not, you’ll have a whole heap of headaches.

If your account is in good standing, you should be ok, but I just changed and have a problem changing legal name on here, as my account is still under a review (Order Defect due to Covid 19 affecting Supplier).

You can get a company set up free, via Tide Bank. Their business account does cost from £12 a month, but does interact with Amazon and other sites, but 3rd party apps are needed to capture Amazon Fees like FBA.

I went through the same process last March Sole Trader to Limited and VAT in one go, the process itself was pretty straight forward apart from an error on Amazon’s side where I had to revert back to Sole Trader get reverified and back to Limited Company and Verification again, the biggest issue was the lack of communication from Amazon - no emails etc just keep an eye on your seller status for when they need more information, the verification from Sole Trader to Limited to took 3 months the change back to Sole Trader took around 6 weeks and the final verification took less than 48 hours.

We went through this exact process with Amazon a few years ago. We continued to sell without issue and provided Amazon with the information they asked for. Amazon did take many months to process the change, with many weeks going by without any updates, so be prepared for this to take a long time. They seem to take an age to process anything we sent them, but got there eventually.

Hi
The best thing to do is to consult with a tax consultant

just a tip (one which i had known about as it took weeks of headaches to solve) what you register with companies house must match EXACTLY what you update amazon to be - example Ltd and Limited do NOT match - took me a month of lost sales and head scratching that one did - and amazon reply in riddles if there is a error
