FBA Shipment- Pallets or Just Boxes
Hello,
I am new to FBA and I am struggling to understand the shipment process. Your kind help will be highly appreciated.
I am planning to send 1000 Essential Oil units to FBA with each packaging unit weights1 kg. My supplier from China is putting all these in 50 different boxes with each box weighting 23 kg . So each 23 kg box will have 20 units times 50 boxes = 1150 kg in total).
Can these be sent just in boxes or these have to be sent in pallets please?
What are the FBA rules on this please?
Thank you
Regards
Thank you in advance for your response.
Kindest regards,
Vick

The decision is purely down to cost especially if you’re sending from China. Is your supplier doing all the prep for you so you’re sending straight to amazon?
Have you gone through the seller university for fba?

1000 units weighing 1kg each sounds like a lot of storage fees to pay. Are you confident they will sell quickly?

You just need to ask your supplier to get quotes for both options then and see which is cheapest.
What @Demel has said is very valid though, it could be worth only sending a small number to amazon first and storing the rest. A small storage unit will cost less than amazon will charge for those if they don’t sell

Hi,
I’m genuinely interested in the answer to this question - if any FBA sellers know the actual cost of boxes vs pallets for this sort of qty/weight it would be really good to know
We ourselves already ship approx 500kg each week in about 20-30 boxes (approx weight of each box is 20kg) & we have always wondered the difference (if any) if we were to contemplate pallets.
Logistically pallets would be a big headache, as internally we just don’t have the space for pallets or even a pump truck at present hence we’ve stuck with boxes - but if we were talking a massive saving then we would seriously re-consider.
FYI - storage costs in AMZ would be small compared to a storage unit in my opinion - as we normally have about 2000 units in FBA warehouse at any one time across multiple lines and that averages about £120 pm in storage costs including some oversize classed products. - we just recently costed a storage unit of 100sq ft - and it was considerably more than this.
But if someone could answer the question of box costs vs pallet costs based on the original question, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks

23kg boxes are slower for Amazon to handle. If you get it down to 15kg, they go through FBA quicker. (15kg or less is 1 person, over 15kg you need heavy labels and it’s 2 person).
I’d be worried about sending first shipment direct to FBA and storage fees. I’d have shipped to myself, send to Amazon slowly. That way can check quality, plus also reduce storage fees.
Also if there was any customs issues, Amazon do not deal with these and your shipment would get sent straight back to China.

Thank you all for your inputs.
So based on what you all have written I understand that with that size and weight (50 boxes in total) even if I send just boxes to AMZ the latter will make no fuss and that I DO NOT necessarily have to send these boxes in pallets, correct?
Thanks

The best price for a box of 20kg with UPS is £4.47 which is £0.22/kg but if you are able to send 500kg in £50 that would be make it £0.10/kg so in that case pallet will work better.
If the pallet is less than 220kg then you will be better off with boxes assuming £50 pallet charge.
