INTERESTINGLY I posted several more comments here giving updates, over a couple of weeks, of the (NON) progress with the 2 cases I raised with SS on this problem. These comments have disappeared!!
HOWEVER the problem is now solved on my computer (with Windows XP and Chrome) and I can now edit listings and create new ones. I hope everyone else affected is also OK now.
FULL MARKS to the programmers who sorted this out but NONE to the censors!!
