Is there a way to add “Full Protection” (extra insurance) when buying postage labels on Amazon FBM?
Hi everyone,
I wanted to ask for some advice regarding postage label insurance for Amazon FBM orders.
On eBay, when buying postage labels (for example, through Evri), there’s an option to add Full Protection or Enhanced Compensation, basically extra insurance in case the parcel gets lost or damaged. However, I noticed that when buying shipping labels directly through Amazon Buy Shipping, there doesn’t seem to be an option to add additional coverage, only the standard carrier protection.
Does Amazon offer a similar feature to add full insurance or compensation coverage when purchasing labels through Buy Shipping? If not, aside from Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed, what other courier services offer higher or additional protection/compensation options for lost or damaged parcels?
Would really appreciate any advice or recommendations from other FBM sellers on how you handle insurance for high-value shipments.
Thanks in advance!

I tend to use RM Tracked 48/24, has £75 cover.
If you buy from couriers direct you can up the standard cover.
You would just need to add the tracking in manually on confirming the order or link a RM account to Amazon.
Considering the much vaunted protection to ODR that Buy Shipping is supposed to give isn't worth a light, I personally consider it a better option.
Also haven't had an INR claim since switching from Buy Shipping.

Hi @Seller_exWMdCdbEu167,
Thank you for reaching out on the Seller Forums! I'm happy to see that you have received some helpful advice in the replies here.
If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend taking a look at your Buy Shipping insurance settings to see what your options are. For more information, please read through the following help pages:
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
All the best,

Hi @Jameson_Amazon,
I would like to request clarification regarding the insurance or declared value options available when purchasing shipping labels through Amazon Buy Shipping. In the “Delivery preferences” section of Seller Central, there is an option that says:
“Selecting an option below will cover each delivery label for the declared value of the item(s) in the package.” With the choices:
- For all packages
- For packages with a value greater than X
However, based on our experience, Amazon Buy Shipping does not provide an option to purchase additional insurance or enhanced compensation coverage for lost or damaged parcels (similar to the “Full Protection” / “Enhanced Compensation” options available when buying labels directly from carriers like Royal Mail or Evri).
I really appreciate the previous advice and insights shared, but I believe it would be best to receive a direct confirmation from Amazon. I also read the articles you provided, but the information is still unclear to me, so we kindly request a strong confirmation from Amazon’s internal team. Since you have access to internal systems and documentation, we would appreciate it if you could verify this for us internally. Could you please confirm the following:
- Does selecting a declared value in Buy Shipping actually add insurance or enhanced compensation through the carrier?
- If not, what is the purpose of this setting, and which carriers (if any) honor declared value through Buy Shipping?
- Does Amazon provide any option to add additional coverage when shipping high-value FBM orders through Buy Shipping?
- Aside from Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed, are there any Buy Shipping carriers that include higher compensation limits by default?
We want to ensure our high-value FBM orders are fully protected, so receiving a clear and definitive answer from Amazon would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your assistance. Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,

Hi @Seller_exWMdCdbEu167,
Here is the information I am able to find on this, as a member of the Forums team:
Declared Value in Buy Shipping
Amazon Buy Shipping allows sellers to set preferences for declared value coverage in the "Delivery preferences" section of Seller Central. Sellers can configure their preferences to :
- Opt out of insurance completely
- Insure for a declared value equal to the total package value - The declared value automatically matches the total item value
- Insure for a declared value if the package exceeds a specified threshold - For example, only apply declared value if the package value is above a certain amount (like $100 or $500)
Important Clarifications
What declared value does: The declared value setting in Buy Shipping tells the system what value to declare for the package. This impacts how much the carrier's standard liability coverage applies to the shipment.
What it does NOT do: Based on the internal documentation, the declared value setting in Amazon Buy Shipping does not appear to be the same as purchasing additional "Full Protection" or "Enhanced Compensation" insurance that you might buy directly from carriers like Royal Mail or Evri.
The declared value primarily:
- Sets the value declared to the carrier for the shipment
- May trigger carrier-specific liability coverage based on that declared amount
- Can incur additional charges depending on the carrier and declared amount
Carrier-Specific Coverage
The actual compensation limits and coverage depend on the specific carrier selected through Buy Shipping. Each carrier has their own:
- Standard liability limits (implied coverage)
- Maximum declared value limits
- Insurance providers and terms
If you require more information on this, I recommend that you open a case with Seller Support. If the answer provided there is not sufficient, you can let us know with the case ID and we can escalate internally to make sure it reaches the appropriate team that will be able to give you final answers on this.
