Buyer claims he received an empty box with nothing but sugar paper

I received an order from a buyer for an electric scooter which he received a few days ago and on the day he received it he sent me a message claiming he received an empty box with nothing but sugar paper inside.

I went ahead and told him that his parcel was weighed several times by DHL until it reached his address and sugar paper does not weigh 17.9 KG. Luckily, DHL took a photo of the delivered box which was left outside the customer’s doorstep, on his door mat to be specific. The photo clearly shows the box still sealed and well-packed meaning that nothing could’ve fallen out during transit since it arrived in the same condition it was dispatched in.

Another interesting thing about the picture is that it was on the customer’s door mat and it was slightly tilted to the right. I am not a physics expert but it is clear that the box could not balance in that way if it was empty.

Anyway, I passed on the information to the customer and he did not reply back. He went and opened an A-Z claim with Amazon the next day by using the same excuse.

He didn’t even use his full name from the beginning and he is clearly trying to commit fraud so he can get his money back and keep the item. The order was made under the name ‘AM’.

The claim currently under review and I am wondering if anybody can give me some advice, it has been about 4 days since he sent the message and he still has not replied and it’s been 3 days since the case was opened without a resolution so far. According to Amazon, it should take 2-3 working days.

I would inform him that, since it appears there has been a theft, the Police and DHL will be investigating at which point in the process this theft occurred and will be in contact to take a statement.
