Image customisation of listed products (me too listings)

Hi guys,

Is it possible to add and optimise images of a product that’s already listed on Amazon by another seller, and that which you intend on reselling (Me too Listings).

I want to update some images and improve them under my own seller profile, however, I get a message which says “When multiple sellers sell the same product through a single detail page, we combine and present the best product data to ensure customers get the best experience.”

Does this mean that if I change images of already listed products, it would change for every other seller who is reselling this product?

Thanks

When you add the same ASIN, under edit option, you can see barcode below ASIN. Compare it with the one supplied by your supplier.
As for your question at top regarding changing listing optimisation, you can change all these only in one condition, and that is if the product is not created by the brand owner. In that case, Amazon will send your suggestions to the brand owner and then it is upto him whether he approves it or not.
If the listing was not created by brand owner, then you can change it but when you try to update it through editing (esp. title and images), it won’t update straightforward. You have to open case and Amazon SS/Catalogue Team will do it but even then they will ask you for raw unedited photos holding product in hand or lying on table.
Answer to your question regarding creating new listing, you can create new listing and you will see multiple listings of same product but Amazon keeps on cracking down duplicate listings. So if you did all the hardwork, did new photography, new content writing, spent money on PPC and when the bud is going to blossom, you see your listing has been deactivated/suppressed. So all your hardwork will go in drain.

Yes, you are selling on a catalogue not your own listing.

The winning contributor of images is the image the customer sees it doesn’t matter who currently has the buybox. This may or may not be the images you upload.

Thanks a lot for the response  Really appreciate it !

Would it be better to create a new listing altogether for the same product, rather than using an existing listing by a seller?

The reason why I ask this is because I can see so many opportunities that could really enhance this listing if I optimise titles, descriptions and images. What I don’t naturally want is that the effort and time I put in optimising my listing to be used by another seller to generate sales for him/her.

How does one go about this when reselling items? Is this even possible to do ?

Thanks

Is this a product that you purchase from a supplier - wholesaler etc or is this something that has been designed and made in-house ?
If the former - have you checked that the barcode and brand are the same on your product as the listing

If its the exact same product with the same barcode you can’t/shouldn’t create a new listing

Thank you ! It’s a product purchased from a wholesaler. The brand is exactly the same, however, since the barcode on the listing is not visible in the image, I can’t tell if it’s the same as mine?

What can be done in this scenario?

go to - inventory - add a product and type the barcode number into the search box - it should bring up the correct listing - check the brand name on it too

This is how you should always check for your product listings on amazon

Thank you !

I just searched with the barcode and it returned results of exactly the same brand with my barcode.

However, the listing on Amazon that I copied “to resell” this brand has a different barcode to mine.

So effectively, there are 2 listings of the same brand with 2 different barcodes. My barcode matches a listing which I haven’t copied over “to resell”.

What should I do in this instance ?

Thanks

It’s very unlikely any changes you make will be accepted, as by the sounds of it you haven’t sold many on the listing, consider that other sellers have probably sold a vast number of these, I have made changes to a product before where we have had the buy box over 70% for a year, sold thousands of units and the changes are not implemented via the edit listing or file upload methods.

There are ways to get everything done, but I can’t go into it here unfortunately.

It used to be (or seem, at least) that a human would check the new information you submit, and see if it was an improvement. These days, if you didn’t create the listing, then even if your pictures and description are much better than the existing ones, it’s likely you’ll just get an automated email saying ‘It appears this listing is controlled by the brand owner. We’ve sent your suggestions to them’ etc. It can be frustrating when the listing in question clearly wasn’t made by the ‘brand owner’ or wholesaler, as they sell to many retailers, don’t sell on Amazon themselves, and would have no reason to put incorrect or poor quality information on a product listing. I’ve never had any updates made after new or corrected information was ‘sent on to’ the ‘brand owner’.

This has been a problem area for several years.
I can only speak about my own product (books) but I assume its the same for other products
The person who originally lists the product should put in a picture of that product. Theoretically that picture should be suitable for anyone else who subsequently sells exactly the same product. We all know however that there are many slapdash pictures - eg out of focus , pictures of something completely different etc.
It used to be that you could complain about the original picture and get your own picture in it’s place. To do that you would have to have been absolutely certain your product was exactly the same as the one that the original seller is selling. This is always tricky with books as , for example, your copy of the book might have a dustwrapper but the original seller mght not have one - so the photos would be different even though they were the same book.
This would now seem to be irrelevant as Amazon now no longer allow you to change the original photo. There are thousands of “placeholder” images which have wording such as “actual photo coming shortly”.
You can always mitigate this deplorable state of affairs by putting in your own photo - this will not appear on the main product page but will appear beside you own listing. Personally I have my own photo on everyone of my listings as I would rarely trust anyone else to put the correct photo on the main product page.
Having said that Amazon no longer allow photos to be changed there are , of course , the rogue sellers who appear to be able to get round this and change the photo to something completely different. I have no idea how they do this
