Amazon-optimized shipment splits

When shipping single sku case packs to Amazon FBA, it would be helpful to know upfront how many cases are required to qualify for Amazon-optimized shipment splits (ie with no placement fee), or if it will simply not be available...

I totally understand Amazon's perspective on the new fees, and want to work collaboratively to make inbound FBA as efficient as possible, but we need better information when planning our workflow. Like many FBA sellers, the option to pay these fees doesn't really work. We need better transparency from Amazon to be successful.

I have been starting with 4 cases and that has mostly worked except when a location needs more than one case. I have been successful in going back and adding more cases to get enough to satisfy the split without additional fees.

Hi @Seller_iSwCj2ZLT3PWN,

Dominic from Amazon here, happy to try to help. You may have already seen this but I will provide the info below:

Inbound placement options will be provided only when your shipments qualify. Factors that affect the number of inbound options include the following:

Whether your shipment includes a mix of standard-size items, non-standard-size items, or special handling categories

  • Whether each box contains the same mix and quantities of SKUs
  • Quantities and number of boxes for each item
  • Geographical demand

To maximize the number of inbound options, try the following:

  • Create separate shipments for standard-size items, non-standard-size items, and each special handling category
  • Ensure the item mix and item quantities are equal across all boxes
  • Increase the number of boxes

Best,

Dominic

It's another bs fee. You may save on Placement fees but the carrier costs have multiplied significantly, it's a no win situation.

It seems random. Paid 650 for a shipment of 1k units. Then 3 weeks later, paid 400 for same 1k units. Shipped to same west coast locations. My guess is its an algo that determines these kinds of things, so constantly changing/optimizing.

Like so many things on Amazon, we're at the mercy of algos.

We are chaning everything now due to this fee. We now only send in the best selling SKUS and for the other Child ASINs from thsoe parents, we ship FBM. The nice thing is, Amazon is giving us the buy box for every Child SKU. We are about to check to see if we can just send in one child ASIN and then FBM the rest. Fingers crossed we can do this and then it will be easy to hit those 4 case min with free placement fees for our hotter seasonal selling items.

Yes, it is very challenging and takes a lot of time adding boxes to your workflow and try to match the right amount for the no placement fee.
