Royal Mail vs Hermes

I’ve got a great rate with Hermes.

Royal Mail are desperate for my business. If they come back with an equivalent rate should I make the leap?

I’m worried if it doesn’t work out then I won’t get the same rate I enjoy with Hermes back.

One thing I like about Hermes is that I can put a description of item on my postage label. It makes picking and packing so much easier. It that possible with RM?

I’d say RM are far more reliable than Hermes. I’ve had experience with a ton of carriers: Hermes, APG, Citylink (I think are now DX) DPD, UK Mail, DHL, Yodel, Parcelforce, Royal Mail.

Hermes have been by far the worst. Even when I order online, I eye roll when I realise it’s coming with Hermes. However as you use them they may work out okay for you?

IMO if you can switch to RM on the same rates I would. We use Linnworks for order management and we have been able to add product name and quantity to the bottom of our RM labels.

I also use both and Royal Mail are much better. They do not break anything, extremely rare delivery problems for parcels (large letters are more common).
Hermes on the other hand will break anything, no matter how you pack it and delivery problems are much more common. They leave parcels wherever they want, mark as delivered but can actually deliver in the next few days, etc.
It depends on the courier, I have not had problems with parcels delivered to me by Hermes, but we deal with problems often for parcels we send.
But then, they offer the cheapest price and full tracking, which is needed. They also have compensations unlike royal mail standard services and are not hard to claim.

Hermes are awful! 100% Royal Mail, we use Royal Mail for all UK orders and rarely have any issues with them. No lost parcels and tracking is so easy to use.

we once tried Hermes for thousands of orders a week due to price,
think they lasted about 6 months before we gave it all back to royal mail who still give us issues but are much more reliable than Hermes who throw parcels over garden fences ect

Unlike everyone else I find Hermes far more efficient, good value for money and far better than Royal Mail. I only use Royal Mail when I really have to. There are occasional problems with rogue Hermes couriers but I have very few damages (and I send out candles). Problems are always resolved and compensation paid quickly.

Just saying …

OK so i’ve had the quote and RM are 5.6% more expensive that is based on restriction of average £1kg weight.

Over 1kg average it is 17% difference which I can’t accept.

I have no idea if we can meet that weight target…need to get the calculator out and/or start selling light weight items.

In an ideal world I would want to have both running side by side so I can switch if I have a problem. I don’t have the numbers for this though, at least not currently.
