Laser printer recommendation for a4 integrated label paper
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a laser printer that is compatible with a4 integrated label paper to print orders off. We need to change our printer but am finding it a little difficult to find a suitable printer. We require:
- compatible with a4 integrated label paper
- decent size input tray and output tray
- economical - ie low cost per copy
- ideally with a scanner and copier in it.
thanks in advance.

About a year or two back I looked into new printers with similar requirements. I also wanted colour though and in the end went with Lexmark. Overall I’m quite happy with it.
I did considered a Brother printer but then found out that it won’t print black & white if the colour cartridges run out. A standard black & white Brother might be ok though if you don’t need a colour printer.

I use an Epson ecotank Inkjet printer with integrated A4 label paper.
The bottles of ink are really cheap (about £6-10 off Amazon Prime) and last for ages.
Has a scanner and a copier, and prints quite fast - I will admit I have had some problems with it, first one got replaced by Epson, 2nd got repaired (the repair guy said he was surprised he rarely gets Epson as they are so reliable, but may have been just lying), so its quite possible I just got a dodgy two, but despite the minor issues I still use because of how cheap it is to print.
Its a real workhorse, and has printed out 25,000 pages in less than a year

The problem with Ecotanks (we use them for certain types of printing and they are indeed workhorses), is that the ink will smudge/run if it gets wet along the way, so if your customers postie is delivering mail in the rain, the ink could run making the label impossible to scan or even read. This is why laser printers are ideal for integrated labels.
My best advice would be to check the consumables costs on ebay and go with the printer that will cost you the least.
For black and white, we have a HP Laserjet M402 (mainly because at the time we were able to buy an additional paper tray) For colour, we are actually on the lookout for a desktop colour laser printer but our office machine is a Konica C468 (or something like that) and we can get a full set of toners for about £100.

I use Epson Ecotank ET 2751 - ink does not run when it gets wet but can smudge a little (I just tested this by pouring some water over a page, and wiping it off with kitchen roll (rubbing not dabbing) I can still make out very easily what the text says despite the puddle of water it supported for about a minute.
It may however be that the integrated paper I use has a bit of a sheen to it that usual paper doesn’t have.
I can say that since I purchased the printer I have printed a total of 24,466 pages, I have in that time ordered 23 bottles of ink (like I said ranging from £6-10 but for ease lets say £10), my tanks are also about 3/4 full but I’m going to forget that (they hold just shy of an entire 70ml bottle each).
So 23 bottles, at £10 a bottle is £230 in replacement ink, to print 24,000 pages that’s £0.01 a page - and THAT is why we put up with the odd paper jam (maybe once a week) and the head cleaning cycle (once a day maybe twice, some days none) that we have to do.
I will say however that whenever I have finished up these last 2 boxes of integrated labels we are moving to a Zebra thermal printer as what you save in ink you spend on paper - we’re currently paying nearly £100 for 5,000 sheets.

I’ve been in the print industry for over 20 years and I would not recommend Epson inkjet printers to anyone. The printhead longevity is abysmal and cannot be replaced by the end user.
For adress labels you only need a mono laser. A Brother HL-L2370DN is around the £100 mark and a real workhorse.
Brother, Lexmark, OKI, Xerox are the best brands to buy.

before i moved over to a thermal printer I used a lexmark T650n - a laser toner printer and used A4 integrated labels
never had any problems - the compatible toners worked well
printed thousands of sheets per year for several years with it

I also bought an Epson Ecotank for dye sub work. After less than 200 prints (on small mug sheet paper) the printhead failed. It also constantly jammed.
Now gathering dust in the corner. Total rubbish as I should have expected from Epson. We do dye sub and large format fine art printing. We switched from Epson to Canon for LFP 3 years ago and have never looked back.
R.I.P. Epson you peice of junk!

Sorry, I don’t want to derail the thread but @The_Little_shop and @Aroha, can I ask are you both using Sawgrass inks or a third party?

We use Kyocera ECOSYS M5521cdn and its a great printer. Ink is relatively cheap, Price per sheet is very cheap and you can use the black and white even if the colour runs out.
