Can adult chest waders be changed from Safety Shoes/PPE to normal chest waders?
Hi everyone,
We currently sell adult chest waders with attached boots as Safety Shoes / PPE, because the boots have steel toe caps.
The product has CE documentation, including Notified Body details in the paperwork/instructions. However, the Notified Body number is not marked next to the CE mark on the product itself.
Amazon has asked for the CE / Notified Body number to be shown on the product. From what I understand, for Safety Shoes / PPE this may need to be physically marked on the product, not only included in the documentation.
Because of this, we are considering changing the listing from Safety Shoes / PPE to normal adult chest waders / waterproof outdoor waders, and removing any safety footwear claims from the listing.
Has anyone had experience with changing a product from a Safety Shoes / PPE classification to a normal non-safety product type/category, where the product is no longer marketed with any safety or protective claims?
Would Amazon allow this if the listing no longer advertises the product as safety footwear, even though the boots have steel toe caps?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi @Seller_pZPUigSoKl3Mk,
It is possible to change your product's classification from Safety Shoes/PPE to a non-safety category like outdoor/waterproof chest waders. However, there are a few important things to consider:
- Remove all safety claims. Your listing must not reference steel toe caps, safety footwear, PPE protection, or any protective claims. The product title, bullet points, description, and backend keywords all need to be updated accordingly.
- Product type matters. Chest waders used primarily for outdoor activities like fishing or hunting are generally classified differently from safety footwear. Waders used for hunting/outdoor activity are typically categorised outside of apparel and PPE classifications.
Amazon assigns product types based on the claims and attributes in your listing. Changing those claims can affect your product's classification, but it's not always instant or automatic.
Products classified as Safety Shoes / PPE, particularly those falling under PPE Category II (which includes safety footwear), the CE marking with the Notified Body number typically needs to be visible on the product itself, not just in the accompanying documentation. Under the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425, the stricter the category, the more rigorous the marking and conformity requirements become. Review the category requirements, if needed.
Update your listing and remove any and all references to safety features, PPE, steel toe caps, or protective claims from your product detail page.
Reclassify via Seller Support requesting a product type/category change to the appropriate outdoor waders category. You may need to provide a flat file with the updated item_type_keyword.
Keep documentation handy. Even if you reclassify, retain your CE documentation in case Amazon or a regulatory body queries the product in future.
