Suppressed due to non white background
Got a real problem at the moment, Amazon suppressed about 300 of our listings stating NON white background.
I check every image in photoshop and make sure it’s on a white background but I’ve found the issue but not how to solve it.
I save all images at max jpg quality but because it’s jpg it always has a little bit of artefacting around the edge due to compression.
This is what Amazon are picking up on and suppressing the listing - I’ve attached an example (on the left is the image that i’m uploading on the right is showing that the background is pure white and if you zoom in close you can see the jpg compression on the edges.
I’m at a loss of how I can fix this as It’s the maximum quality (and when looking at the image in photoshop before saving as a jpg there is none of the artefacts due to compression)

This image breaks Amazon’s rules as you are showing a human modelling the item.

A 12 pixel white border around the pic normally does the trick.

I tend to turn the curves down to make it look a bit darker than the background, customer doesn’t notice the difference in the image and it makes it stand out more from the background to Amazons bots

We used this before and never pure white.
Now we use bonanza photo editor and never been a issue now

We found that if you have over 10% of the image white border, it seems to stop (for now, whether these will get picked up in the future remains to be seen)
So for a 2000 x 2000 pixel image, we have a white border of 210 pixels.
Sure, it looks kinda dumb, but it’s working for now

Bizarrely as well out of all the brands we sell 95% of what has been suppressed due to non white background is all from just the one brand. we process all the imagery to make sure they are white backgrounds the same way .

Off topic a bit here sorry, but how do you compress your photos? I just use save for web but on some huge images there is a noticeable loss of colour etc and I don’t like it. Is there a better way?

I think it is because the image does not have a white border at the top and the bottom it has the image right to the edge of the photo. Their stupid programs think it is therefore not a white background.
Try putting a white border at least above and below and add the image again and see if you get a result. May look stupid to the majority of the human race but it is not a human we are dealing with.
Not that dealing with a human makes much difference as an Amazon seller but it’s worth a try.
