Moving from FNSKU to Manufacturer Barcode

We currently sell private label goods ) solely on Amazon using FNSKU barcodes. We are currently looking into starting to sell the same products on other platforms and therefore, it would be beneficial for us, in respect of our Amazon listings, to move from FNSKU to Manufacturer barcodes so we don’t need to have two different barcoding set ups in our supply chai.n

I have confirmed we can use the manufacturer's barcode (UPC bought from GS1)

My question is, how can we change from FNSKU TO UPC without impacting the ranking, etc.?

Hello @Seller_zo2N7rA2UCEns

Christine here from Amazon Forums.

Transitioning from FNSKU (Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit) to UPC (Universal Product Code) barcodes for your Amazon listings is a common step for sellers expanding to multiple platforms.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you make this change while minimizing the impact on your product rankings:

Obtain GS1 UPCs:

Ensure you have legitimate UPCs purchased from GS1 for each of your products.

Update your Amazon listings:

Go to your Seller Central account

Navigate to "Inventory" > "Manage Inventory"

Select the product you want to update

Click on "Edit" and go to the "Offer" tab

In the "Product ID" section, enter your UPC

Save the changes

Create a removal order:

Remove existing inventory with FNSKU barcodes from Amazon's fulfillment centers

You can do this by creating a removal order in Seller Central

Update your product packaging:

Work with your manufacturer to update your product packaging with the new UPC barcodes

Send in new inventory:

Create a new shipment with your updated products bearing UPC barcodes

Send this inventory to Amazon's fulfillment centers

Monitor your listings:

Keep a close eye on your product listings for a few weeks after making the change

Watch for any unusual fluctuations in ranking or sales

Key points to minimize impact on rankings:

  • Don't create new listings. Update your existing listings with the new UPC information to preserve your product history and rankings.
  • Try to make this transition during a slower sales period for your products to minimize potential disruptions.
  • Ensure you have enough inventory with new UPC barcodes ready to ship to Amazon before removing old stock to avoid stock-outs, which can negatively impact rankings.
  • If there's any visible change to your product (like updated packaging), consider informing your customers through product images or description updates to maintain transparency.
  • If possible, consider transitioning your products one at a time or in small batches, rather than all at once. This allows you to monitor and address any issues that arise without risking your entire product line.
  • Keep your prices and product content (title, bullet points, description) consistent during the transition to avoid any algorithm fluctuations.
  • Be prepared to handle any customer inquiries or concerns that may arise due to the change in barcodes or packaging.

Guidelines for UPC and GTIN

Hope you have a great day and happy holidays!

Christine.
